Ella Stevens has gone into the history books once again by becoming the 2018 LGM Privateer Champion. The 12-year-old, from Wotton-Under-Edge, sealed the title at PF International Circuit last weekend, making her a champion for the second year in a row.
Just shy of a full grid of drivers made their way to the Lincolnshire circuit for the final round of the season. After some disappointing heats, Ella lined up on the grid in 20th place. Stevens made a good start, making her way up to 17th before she was forced off wide and off the circuit, eventually re-joining in 28th place.
Ella made her way back up to 25th before the end of the first lap and continued her charge back up the field, reaching 17th place by lap 9. However, she began to lose pace in the kart and dropped back down to 19th at the line. Despite the result, this was still enough for the youngster to wrap up the title, in what was her first year competing in the British Championships. As well as taking the Privateer championship, Ella finished 16th overall, out of 54 entries into the series, a fantastic achievement in what has been a busy season.
Talking after the final,Ella said " I am really happy to have won the Privateer Championship, but I am disappointed with how the final went. My aim was to finish in the top 10 in the final, but things just didn’t go to plan. However, I drove my hardest to work my way back up the field and to become a champion for 2018 is still special. I would just like to thank my incredible sponsors, Corehard, Immun’Age, PowerADoor, APR, Silverstone-Hotels.com and JHR for their support!"
The youngster will now be preparing for the 2019 season, racing when she can at club meetings around the country. Ella is still looking for partners for 2019 as she will embark on her 2nd season in the British Championships.
