Dunkeswell Raceway in Devon hosted the second round of the Wera Tools British Kart Championship.
Jade Racing Team Driver Ella Stevens headed into the round following a P2 finish at Round 1 at Warden Law, with the momentum well and truly on her side - following another victory at Snetterton in F125 Open last weekend.
Ella was immediately on form from the opening practice – setting the fastest time in 6 out of the 7 practice sessions, before going onto seal a blistering pole position in Timed Qualifying.
Heat 1 saw Ella make a solid start, but was beaten into Turn 1 by the fast-starting Charlie Turner – demoting her to P2.
Ella would keep in the lead group throughout the race, always in contention for victory – finishing in P3 after a race long battle with Turner and James Glenister, ended up just 0.5s off the victory.
However post-race, she was judged to have made a false start by the narrowest of margins – meaning she was handed a 5-second time penalty, demoting her to P5 in the amended results.
Undeterred by this setback – Ella proceeded to dominate Heat 2! She put on a stellar performance, with a lights-to-flag victory despite the tricky wet weather conditions and was never headed throughout the race.
This Heat victory gave Ella the maximum 65 points for the first scoring round of the weekend, alongside giving her Pole Position in the Final.
Ella made an excellent start from Pole, holding the lead and resisting the early pressure from her rivals – before settling into her rhythm out-front.
By half-distance, she had broken the slipstream from behind with a 1-second advantage over the chasing pack, before going onto extend her advantage throughout the remainder of the race.
Ella took the chequered flag to secure her second British Kart Championship Final Victory in KZ2 – winning by 2.7s and capping off a perfect weekend with a maximum points score across both rounds at Dunkeswell.
Following Round 2, Ella now leads the Wera Tools KZ2 British Kart Championship Standings.
The next round heads to Glan-Y-Gors in North Wales, for Round 3 of the Championship on the 13-15 June.
