Glan-Y-Gors Park in North Wales was the location for the third round of the Wera Tools British KZ2 Kart Championship.
Ella had great momentum behind her after a dominant performance at Dunkeswell, where she took home maximum points in Round 2 of the British Kart Championships, alongside another victory in F125 Open at Donington Park, in the run up to her trip to North Wales.
Throughout the wet-dry mixed conditions on Friday and Saturday, Ella was always in the top 3 on the timesheets – topping the pre-qualifying session in the process.
As the weather took an unexpectedly warm turn for Qualifying – Ella set the 3rd fastest time, which is where she would start for the two heats on Saturday.
Heat 1 saw Ella make a difficult start, dropping to P5 but on the tail of the chasing lead pack. Going around the final corner, the kart ahead missed a gear – leaving Ella no chance to avoid contact and ended up receiving a nosecone drop-down and lost a position as she recovered. She would finish the race in P6 – but would drop to P9 in the final results due to the 5-second nosecone penalty, through no fault of her own.
The second heat saw Ella make a better start, but as they all battled for position – she was forced back to P5 in the early stages.
As the race developed, Ella’s kart improved as she hounded P4 for the remainder of the race – ultimately unable to make the move around this notoriously difficult circuit to overtake on.
Her heat results meant she would start the Final from P7 on the grid.
A combative start saw Ella forced down the order, after being pushed wide by a rival at the start of the second-lap of the race, which also saw her get a nosecone drop-down once again through no fault of her own!
From here, Ella mounted a recovery drive – setting the fastest lap on her way to P8 at the chequered flag, before being classified P9 after her unfortunate penalty.
Despite a challenging weekend in Glan-Y-Gors, Ella currently sits P2 overall in the Wera Tools KZ2 British Kart Championship Standings – heading into the final round at Kimbolton, which is the place where she took her maiden KZ2 victory in 2023!
The season finale takes place on the 1-3 August, with Ella well and truly in contention to win the biggest prize in British Karting!
