Gloucestershire’s Ella Stevens had a mixed weekend of results at Rowrah, Cumbria, for the British Super One Championship.
After not being at the circuit for over 2 years, Ella set some impressive lap times on the Friday testing. On Saturday the heavens opened for Qualifying. Stevens was posting in lap times within the top 15, until traffic in the last few minutes saw her drop down to 21st place out of a field of 28.
For the first heat, the inexperienced youngster battled her way through the field, but a late spin resulted in her crossing the line in 24th after running in 15th place. Heat two once again saw the Immun’Age and CoreHard backed driver make a cracking start, charging from 21st to 16th. After some close battles Ella was forced off the track by another driver, putting her back in 20th.
Due to Ella’s heat results, she lined up in 22nd place for the first final. The 11-year-old made some outstanding overtakes to boost herself up the order, eventually finishing in 13th place. Once again, the heavens opened just before the main final. The mad rush was on for all teams and drivers to change from dry to wet set up. Ella set off from P13, getting herself up to 11th before a battle with a group of drivers saw Ella forced wide off the circuit, dropping her down to 22nd. The comeback was on. Setting lap times fast enough for her to be in the top 10, she managed to work her way up the order to cross the line in 15th place, winning the Privateer’s trophy and coming 3rd in the Rookies.
Speaking after the weekend, Ella said “It has been a mixed weekend. I would have liked to have finished in the top 10 and I think that would have been possible if I did not get forced wide. However, I am happy with how I drove to come back up to 15th place and I am very happy to have won the Privateer’s trophy. I am learning each time I go out in the kart and I am very excited for the next round. I would like to thank all my sponsors for their continued support, as well as my family and friends”.
The next round of Super One is on the 21/22nd July, but Ella is next out this coming weekend for Round 4 of the LGM Championship at Forest Edge, Hampshire.
